How Do E-Cigs Compare to Regular Cigarettes?

Electronic Cigarettes contain nicotine and deliver this through an atomizer located within the electronic cigarette. They do not contain, however, the estimated 4000 chemicals of traditional cigarettes. Some of these chemicals include formaldehyde, tar, and ammonia. Many users of e-cigs, who frequent various forums over the internet, report that they have improved breathing, taste, smell, and sleep patterns after prolonged use of the product. Also the replacement nicotine cartridges in E-Cigs have a retail price of $25.00 per carton on average, which is approximately 50% of the price of normal cigarettes.

Smoking e-cigs is more likened to smoking a pipe or rolling your own cigarettes than smoking regular cigarettes. There is a lot more to the enjoyment of it than simply pulling a cigarette out of a pack and lighting it. Part of the enjoyment of an e-cig comes from getting it to perform to your personal taste. This is achieved through selection of juices, vaping technique, care and modification of your equipment and many more subtle influences.

Often considered an annoyance at the onset these things quickly become an important part of the overall enjoyment of the habit just like packing and stoking a pipe for a pipe smoker.

How to Clean and Maintain Your Atomizer:

During normal use you should only need to wipe the atomizer with a clean, dry paper towel or napkin without having to disassemble the e-cigarette, and any time you change batteries, wipe the atomizer threads with a clean, dry paper towel or napkin, making sure not to leave any pieces of paper towel or napkin stuck in the threads.

It should not be necessary to insert anything into the atomizer to clean it. Doing so could damage some delicate parts.

If the atomizer is sticky from e-liquid or e-juice:

  1. Remove the cartridge by pulling it firmy and set it aside.
  2. Unscrew the atomizer from the battery.
  3. Wipe the outside of the atomizer and its threads with a paper towel or napkin dipped in pure grain alcohol, vodka, rubbing alcohol, or water.
  4. Screw the atomizer onto the battery.
  5. Push the cartridge onto the atomizer.

If the atomizer is gunked up with e-liquid or e-juice (if you're having a tough time puffing on it):

  1. Remove the cartridge by pulling it firmy and set it aside.
  2. Unscrew the atomizer from the battery.
  3. Place one end of the atomizer into your mouth.
  4. Hold a paper towel or tissue under the other end of the atomizer.
  5. Blow firmly and steadily into the atomizer, turning it slightly as you blow. You should hear a gurgling sound and see some liquid on the paper towel or tissue.
  6. Turn the atomizer around and repeat steps 3 through 5 until no more liquid comes out.
  7. Wipe the outside of the atomizer and its threads with a damp paper towel or napkin.
  8. Screw the atomizer onto the battery.
  9. Push the cartridge onto the atomizer.

If the atomizer is hopelessly dirty:

  7. Fill a small, clean (preferably glass) bowl or jar with hot tap water.
  8. Drop the atomizer into the bowl and soak it for 5 to 10 minutes.
  9. Remove the atomizer from the bowl and rinse it thoroughly with hot tap water (you may want to wear rubber gloves for this to protect your hands from burns).
  10. Let the atomizer cool for a minute.
  11. Place one end of the atomizer into your mouth.
  12. Hold a paper towel or tissue under the other end of the atomizer.
  13. Blow firmly and steadily into the atomizer, turning it slightly as you blow. You should hear a gurgling sound and see some water on the paper towel or tissue.
  14. Turn the atomizer around and repeat steps 11 through 13 until no more liquid comes out.
  15. Stand the atomizer up on its unthreaded end on a clean, dry paper towel or cloth to dry for at least 24 hours.
